Introduction

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was inaugurated on 6th August 2016, and welcomed the first batch of students into the campus in Paloura, Jammu. In the initial phases, the establishment of IIT Jammu was done under the mentorship of IIT Delhi.In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted the primary operations to the Main Campus in Jagti, Nagrota. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has provided land for the establishment of a permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology in Jammu, which consists of 400 acres.IIT Jammu is recognized as an “Institute of National Importance” under the “Institutes of Technology Act” of 1961. IIT is an autonomous public higher education Institute funded by the Government of India, and functions under the governance of the IIT Council.

Currently the Phase 1 A of the main campus, spread across 25 acres, is operational. Phase 1 B and 1 C are undergoing construction.The campus in Paloura currently houses the PhD scholars and is being developed into a high-end research facility.The main campus of the Institute is located on National Highway 44 and is about 15 kilometers from the Airport.

Campus

Temporary campus:

Set up in the LCD campus, the temporary campus of IIT Jammu has all the facilities required for a hassle-free academic environment. A total of 40,000 sq.ft. built-up area including hostels, house classrooms, a seminar room, a library, a computer Laboratory, faculty offices, a cafeteria, and recreational and creative facilities. The campus has volleyball, basketball, badminton courts, and cricket nets. Indoor sports facilities include table tennis, carom, chess, and snooker. Rooms for music, dance, and other activities are also available. There is a very nice open-air stage in the academic building which serves as the centre of cultural activities and performances.

Initially, the first batch of B.Tech. students stayed at the temporary campus for the first two years. They were subsequently transferred to the transit Campus once it was finished to stay with all the subsequent batches. The temporary campus now houses only the P.hD students and research scholars.

Permanent campus:

The State Government has provided the land, measuring 159 hectare for establishment of Indian Institute of Technology at Jammu. The agreement was signed by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Director IIT Delhi for and on behalf of MHRD, Government of India, being the mentor Institute and Shri Hemant Sharma, Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department Government of Jammu and Kashmir. IIT Jammu started functioning from 2016 itself from a Temporary campus within Jammu city. Construction of transit campus also started at the same time, and it was ready for operations within a year. The transit campus, spread over 25 acres within the site of the permanent campus, with built up area of about 2 lakh sq. ft. became operational from August, 2017, with the 2017-18 session commencing on permanent campus. The hostels are well equipped for a comfortable lodging and boarding for 650 students. Now, it houses full strength of the B.Tech. as well as the M.Tech. students. The on-campus facilities include hostel accommodation for all students closer to academic area, cafeteria, open gym, laundry centers, digital classrooms, ubiquitous anytime WiFi, music room, TT tables, snooker table, dispensary, and a common hall with TV for indoor recreational activities. The campus has volleyball, basketball, badminton courts, cricket nets and a football ground is under construction. ICICI and J&K Bank have set up their ATMs alongside the hostels near cafeteria. The campus is well connected to Jammu city, and is located on National Highway 44 (India)(Srinagar - Kanyakumari Highway), 6-7  km. from the main Jammu City.

Admission Procedure

IIT Jammu offers a wide range of programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate levels in various fields of engineering, technology, and modern sciences. PG Admission Eligibility Criteria

IIIT Jammu offers a Postgraduate course the candidate needs to fulfil the minimum requirement for enrollment the eligibility criteria are mentioned below

• M.Tech candidate with a minimum percentage of marks in the respective subjects in M.Sc/ B.Tech is eligible.
• M.Tech candidates should have a valid GATE rank or scorecard.
• For final-year students, they can apply provisionally with a valid GATE score and submit the required documents during the interview.
• M.Tech Selection Process candidates with a valid GATE/ GPAT score card and satisfying the eligibility criteria are selected for the interview and counseling process.
• IIT institutes process admission via Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP).
• The institutes or department conducts further rounds of written tests and interviews after COAP to fill the remaining unfilled seats.
• For MBA, the candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks from a recognized university/ college and a qualifying CAT score followed by a personal interview round based on which the final merit list is out

Scholarships

Indian Institute of Technology, [IIT] Jammu, offers scholarships to students to pursue their education without any hurdles. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and the financial need of students. To be eligible for the scholarships, candidates must meet the eligibility requirements. More information about the IIT Jammu scholarships are given below.

Merit-cum-Means: The number of MCM scholarships are limited. Students may apply for any of the above Indian Institute of Technology Jammu scholarships by submitting an application form along with the required documents:

• Form of application (duly filled and signed as per format).
• Student bank account information for scholarship payments.
• Copies of the student's and parents' Aadhaar cards (both).
• Income statement, current family income certificate, and self-declaration on non-judicial stamps of Rupees ten (every time for renewal).
• Caste certificate copy (if applicable).

Free Messing: During each semester, SC and ST students are excused from paying tuition fees. Each semester also includes free messes (only the basic menu) and a pocket allowance of Rs 250/- for each month (only those months in which classes are held will be counted). The following are the remaining eligibility requirements.

• Only SC and ST category students will be eligible for the free messing scholarship.
• The annual household income for the previous financial year shall not exceed Rs. 4.50 lakh.
• For renewal, the minimum SGPA and CGPA must be greater than 6.0, and the backlog of courses must be less than 2.
• A  IIT Jammu student who receives this award is ineligible to receive or apply for any other scholarship from the government, semi-government, institutional, private, or other sources.
• There will be no limit on the number of scholarships awarded under the free messing program (all eligible students are provided with the assistance).

Freeship (Remission of Fee): Economically disadvantaged Students shall be eligible for tuition fee waivers. The following are the remission amount and eligibility requirements.

• Only students in the General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories shall be eligible for the fee remission scholarship. It shall be given to 10% of surviving General, OBC, and EWS students in each branch for each semester and year.
• Students whose annual household income for the preceding financial year was between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh are eligible for tuition fee remission.
• For new admissions each year, the student's JEE Advanced rank is considered in calculating merit and scholarship awards.
• The Cumulative Performance Index, CPI (SGPA & CGPA each >=6.0 and with total backlog courses =2) shall be treated as the eligibility condition for existing students. Each semester, the merit list will be generated based on the CGPA and eligibility criteria.
• Students who receive the award are ineligible to receive or apply for any other scholarship from the government, semi-government, institutional, private, or other sources.

Note: However, in extraordinary circumstances where a student wishes to receive a scholarship from both the IIT Jammu and a private source, the student must obtain permission from the institute before receiving any assistance or scholarship from a private source. If the responsible authority approves their request, they will receive funding from another source.
