The field of animation is an exciting and creative field with lots of opportunities. The main responsibilities of an animator are to create images through computer software for various advertising agencies, production houses and gaming companies. Animators also play an important role in the development of video games, commercials, movies and commercials. To be a successful animator the candidate must possess the following skillsets:

Creativity and innovation: Animators must have a creative and innovative approach towards handling projects as having technical skills is not sufficient to create exceptional computer-generated graphics. The best animators are those who can combine their creative and technical skills to create an object or character that is unique and inspiring. Therefore, it is important that animators have an eye for creativity.

Attention to detail: Visual designers should pay close attention to every little detail of the project they are working on to achieve their goals. Focusing on small details can help you think functionally and creatively as well as help you work faster. Observing small details such as movement, special effects and highlights can create a major difference on the end product and technical skills will help you accomplish your project and help you understand the impact it will have on the audience

Software Proficiency: Animators need to be highly proficient in using computer software as they help bring a designer’s creative vision to life in social media, games, commercials, cartoons and films. Employers are always looking for animators who are technically skilled in using software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe after effects, Autodesk Maya to name a few.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication is an important requirement for a visual designer as he/she would be interacting with clients and employees. Therefore, students must work on their communication skills while pursuing the program.

Multi-Tasker: You must know how to multi-task the assigned task as you don’t want to lose focus. Therefore, you must prioritize and address tasks based on their importance.

Active listener: It is essential that an animator actively listens to the concerns of the client and co-workers to understand their thoughts, concerns and expectations. It is important that you listen to the other person as it will help you improve productivity as well as increase your ability to persuade, influence and negotiate.

Organization skills: Animators often work on multiple projects in a team which makes it important for them to meet deadlines. Therefore, it is important that they stay organized by prioritizing their work.

Drawing Skills: To be a successful animator, it is important that you are able to create a storyboard and plan. The animator needs to have good drawing skills so that they can explain the concept to the design team or client.
